Bodywork Sessions

Masterson Method® is suitable for all ages of equine and no matter their breed or activity level. Whether a happy hacker in light work, a competitive horse in full training or retired and enjoying a more sedate lifestyle, the gentle movements during a Masterson Method® session can help relax all types of horse whilst improving mobility and performance.

What does a session involve?

Before

Before booking, your horse should be healthy. If they are under veterinary supervision, the use of equine bodywork should be approved by your vet. The purpose of Masterson Method® is to enhance performance in the healthy horse. It is not a substitute for veterinary care. Any health concerns with the horse should be referred to a veterinarian.

Background information about your horse will be gathered at the first session. Every session begins with an evaluation through touch which helps guide the session flow. Each will be slightly different depending on the horse’s individual needs. Jim Masterson always reminds us that less is more and it may take a number of regular sessions to peel away the layers of tension, helping to improve overall comfort and well-being.

Where

In the horse’s stable or in a quiet area of the yard where they can relax and focus on themselves. Drinking water should be available.

Duration

A session is usually between 1 – 1 ½ hours and will depend on the horse’s individual needs.

After

Horse’s may continue to process for some time after the session so some paddock turnout is ideal. If this is not available then a 10–15-minute hand walk is a good idea.
